Corporate Events & Interiors, Museums
Client: United Federation of Teachers
Project: Interior Installation – Shanker Hall
Location: UFT Headquarters – Manhattan, NY
Designer: Levin / Silbert
Challenge: Transform the design vision of designer, Levin / Silbert into reality, creating an engaging visual history of the UFT and Albert Shanker’s leadership.
DCI Solution: Working with the designer, DCI brought the history of the UFT and Albert Shanker to life. Hundreds of linear feet of historical photographs were direct printed on aluminum substrate to create timelines and highlight key events. Custom glass-enclosed display cases were integrated into the aluminum graphic walls to display important artifacts that tell the story of the UFT’s formation and evolution. The space is now home to an array of interactive multimedia experiences that engage and encourage visitors. A 2×2 video wall and 80” high resolution monitor immediately catch the eye of guests and allow the client to showcase content in a stunning way. Several multi-touch screens enable guests to access hundreds of photos, documents and videos and multiple custom kiosks, including a cell phone station, allow guests to access web-sites and learn about current UFT activities. The entire multimedia experience is tied together with a back-end control system that allows the client to load content, switch monitor inputs and project audio/video feeds from their auditorium.
Eadie Shanker, the late labor leader’s widow may have said it best; “It’s a beautiful, educational, inspirational display, they make the archives come alive. It brings back such memories.”
