Client: MKTG, Inc.
Project: NBA House Event
Location: New York, NY
Floor Space: 70,000 sq. ft.
Challenge: Transform the century-old garage and sorting room of the main NY Post Office (located across the street from Madison Square Garden) into the “ultimate fan experience” for the week leading up to the 64th NBA All-Star Game. NBA House featured special appearances by NBA players and legends, live entertainment, and a full-size court where clinics and competitions were held.
DCI Solution: Older buildings can be problematic, and this one was no exception. Our team had to compensate for uneven floors and disguise timeworn concrete, dangling wires, and rusty pipes. We laid down new flooring and built ramps to connect the garage with the sorting room. We created scenic and graphic walls, using our proprietary Diamond tensioned fabric system, and built a custom glass enclosure where fans could get a “behind the scenes” glimpse at social media updates throughout the event.
The sorting room featured a half- and full-size court, and included ten 26 foot tall towers that enclosed 18 foot high light boxes, each with the photo of a basketball star. Guests could view the action from the Courtside Lounge, an 1,800 square foot contoured ramp with glass railings.
